Since this time last year, I’ve been renting in the coastal Dublin suburb of Dun Laoghaire. I’m glad I’ve had the opportunity to live beside the sea at least once in my life because it’s so inspirational. I’ve often thought it would be nice to use the colour palette of the seaside for decorating a room – the pale blues and various shades of sand and stone are so calming.

Growing up, I was the least girly person I knew. I hated dolls, dresses and pink and protested at any suggestion of a ribbon in my hair. When I hit my teenage years I shrouded myself in baggy jeans, black nail varnish and unusual shades of hair die.
