I bought IKEA’s tidafors sofa and here’s what I think of it…
A sofa that will fit through a narrow door
I went with Ikea’s Tidafors dark brown sofa for €995. It comes in four packages and, with great difficulty, you assemble it yourself. This is ideal for a mobile home because you can take it in through the narrow door in segments.
I’ve always wanted a dark brown sofa because it’s rustic, it’s easy to keep clean and the dark colour makes cushions pop against it.
Never again, Ikea
It’s a great sofa, but a word of warning – I discovered that Ikea’s delivery service is so bad that I’ll never order anything for home delivery again. For example, if Ikea tell you that they’ll be there between 12pm and 6pm, you’ll wait around all day but they won’t show up. When you call Ikea customer service, they won’t be able to track the delivery or contact the driver. They’ll finally show up at 10.30pm on a Sunday night with a torn box, and incorrect docket and no explanation. You’ll call customer service the next, but they’ll pawn you off. So…never again, Ikea!
You can see the original sofas that came with the mobile home in these two videos, from my blog post showing the first look inside my mobile home.
Choosing a sofa for a small space
If you’re choosing a sofa for a small space here are two tips:
- Low backs versus high backs: Low backs always look good in a small space but I’ve always found them uncomfortable. We wanted something that we could rest our heads back on and relax. The back on the Tidafors is high enough for 6’1″ tall fiancé to sit back and enjoy Netflix.
- Choose one piece of furniture: Having multiple pieces of furniture in a small room can clutter up the space. It’s better to have one larger piece than multiple smaller pieces. The mobile originally came with two separate sofas and they made the space feel smaller.
My new sofa needs cushions
Now for my favourite part, choosing cushions and a nice throw. Just look at it there, naked, waiting to be dressed. I have some amazing cushions already from Wraptious and Ulster Weavers. I’ve found B&Q and TK Maxx great for cushions too.
Where would you recommend for nice cushions and throws?
